Staff picks: our favourite pieces for Spring

It's been a long time coming but the weather is definitely warming up and feeling positively spring-y! To celebrate finally being able to wear spring things, I've asked three ecoHaven to share their new-found favourites in store.

Larissa's fashion pick this spring is the David Husks Rice Dress by Kindling, a cute and fun dress that adds a pop of colour and pattern to any outfit. Her favourite skincare pick is our Mokosh Sesame and Frankincense Body Oil, which melts into the body so luxuriously and smells like a rose geranium and frankincense dream. Her Kester Black nail polish colour of choice is Frizzy Logic, a metallic gold showstopper.

Suzy has chosen the Untouched World Recycled Cotton Wrap as her fashion pick this spring. This wrap has been cleverly made from 100% pre-consumer cotton that is completely transparent and traceable. This cotton is made up of the pre-dyed scraps, rejects and trimmings from the textile industry, but you can't tell, it's such a beautiful, elegant design and feels so lovely on the body.  Suzy's accessories pick is the Double Drop Rock Pool Earrings made from 100% recycled sterling silver, which look amazing on her! Suzy's Kester Black nail polish colour of choice is Peony, a dusty rose shade with a hint of purple and more than a hint of sass.

Ruth has fallen in love with the Untouched World Organic Soy Bean Shirt this Spring, which feels so great on and practically floats on the body. Her Spring skincare item of choice is our Mokosh Rich Face Cream, although she's admitted to wearing it all year round. Ruth's Kester Black nail polish colour choice is Aquarius, a bright, bold springtime shade in purple. Or is it blue? Let's call it 'blurple'.

4 Father's Day gift ideas

In my experience, dads can be hard to shop for. Either their hobbies are so specific that you're terrified of getting the wrong particular 'thing', or they never know what they want... until they suddenly do and buy it for themselves straight away instead of asking for it. I'm sure there are some dads better at asking for presents than others but if your dad is anything like mine, perhaps this list will help you out.

1. Socks

Yes, I'm going there. Socks are perhaps the most cliched Father's Day present, but for good reason. Our Conscious Step socks are comfortable, come in fun patterns and each design supports a different cause, which is great and also means that you can tailor the socks to suit your dad. My dad is a teacher and values education, so last year he got a pair of Conscious Step socks that give books to schools in developing countries. Your dad might prefer to plant trees, donate to HIV research or even feed children!

2. Good luggage

Does your dad travel much? Does his carry-on luggage look a bit worn? The Great Ocean Road Bag is the perfect bag for a weekend away. It's handmade in Melbourne from ethically sourced and locally tanned cow hide and is SUPER sturdy. We've only got one of these bags left in store so please contact us if we can put it aside for you.

3. Skincare

Does your dad look after his skin? Our Valor skincare is nourishing, fuss-free and manly enough to get dads on board. The Organic Castile Face and Body wash (only available in store) is a refreshing all-rounder in the shower and is made using certified organic Australian olive oil, cold pressed coconut, sunflower and avocado oils. Leave your dad smelling of sweet fennel, lime, clove leaf and patchouli. We also have some Peppermint Scrub Worker's Soap and my personal favourite, the Byron Spice Face and Body Soap, which is ultra-moisturising and smells like chai tea. Yum!

4. Chocolate

Imaged soured from Bahen and Co.

Does your dad like chocolate? Chocolate is the perfect treat to bump up a gift and our Bahen and Co. chocolates are truly special. Bahen and Co. chocolates are stone ground in small batches, cold and slow using vintage machinery. Founder Josh Bahen is a former winemaker and it shows in his product, with great attention given to the origin and flavour profile of cacao. The result? Simply made yet complex, delicious dark chocolate with nuanced flavour profiles.

We hope we've helped you a bit on your Father's Day present hunt. Shoot us an email shop@ecohaven.com.au if you need any more gift guidance. Best of luck!

A new chapter for ecoHaven

Goodbye Kirstan

We’ve got some big news. After 8 years of amazing work, our boss Kirstan has decided that it’s time to leave ecoHaven. Kirstan has done an incredible job juggling a young family and running a small business. She’s also the one who has spent 8 years taking after-hours phone calls when we have trival questions, organising the roster to fit all of our various needs, coming in extra hours to cover our shifts when we’re sick, dealing with tech malfunctions and even a natural disaster!

We’re sad to see her go but excited to see what she dreams up next and can’t thank her enough for her hard work, friendship, and for creating a true haven for us at work. Thanks Kirstan! (the hot one in the middle!)

A new chapter for EcoHaven

On the 23rd of August we’ll be welcoming our new owners Cheryl and Kim to ecoHaven. Cheryl and Kim have extensive experience managing in the retail industry and own the Salamanca Wool Shop. We love that their current store has a similar ethos to ecoHaven and we’re looking forward to this new direction.

EcoHaven staff picks: our favourite pieces for winter

This week we thought we'd share with you our favourite winter pieces currently in store. I asked Kirstan (on the left of this summery-for-Hobart photo) and Robyn (on the right) for their 3 picks of the season and here they are:

Robyn's favourites

The Airewool Dress is made from a knitted and milled merino which is wind and water resistant. This tunic-style dress is so easy to layer. Wear it over a round neck top and some leggings for a winter outfit that is un-fussy, stylish and warm.

Made from 80% merino wool and 20% silk, the Reversible Merino Silk Scarf is incredibly lightweight and soft with a beautiful drape. It also comes in a sage green and both scarves are reversible with a lighter colour on the reverse.

Made from ethical Pertex Eco, the Jaunt Jacket has a quilted water resistant outer and is lined with Ecopossum, a soft and cosy blend of Merino, possum and silk. We love the cropped length and classic fit of this jacket which makes it so easy to wear over almost anything.

Robyn has picked three items that are too new to be online at time of publishing, so you're just going to have to come in store and try. Or, if you've fallen in love, send us an email or give us a call and we can sort something out for you.

Kirstan's favourites

The Flit Merino Crop Jacket, like Robyn's Airewool Dress, is made from knitted and milled merino which is wind and water resistant. Cropped and to perfection with beautiful tailoring through the back, the jacket also has superfine merino wool panels under the arms for extra comfort and stretch.

The Mia Poncho has been made from 100% Mongolian cashmere for supreme softness and warmth. The length of this poncho means that it's long enough to keep you covered and warm but doesn't give the 'potato sack' effect that some bulkier and longer ponchos can. Throw it over anything for instant style and warmth.

There's a reason why 3 of the 5 staff at ecoHaven own the Flitch Sweater. Made from 100% merino, this sweater is a little bit special with bat wing sleeves and a unique knit textures throughout the body. If that wasn't enough, it is also very flattering on, with the draped body hiding lumps and bumps and a fitted wide band at the base to provide a defined waistline. You're welcome.

You don't need to have a lot of clothes to feel gorgeous and warm throughout winter, just a few good ones. We hope that we have inspired your winter wardrobe and can't wait to talk all things Fashion Revolution Week with you in next week's article.

Introducing ecoHaven Essentials

We recently launched a small collection of basics for our label ecoHaven Essentials. We have organic cotton round neck t-shirts and Merino wool long sleeve tops made ethically and sustainably from 100% natural fibres.

Every wardrobe needs a simple t-shirt, and this one sure fits the bill. Made ethically in Bangladesh from the softest organic cotton, the tee features a round neck line and a small cap sleeve.

Made with love in Australia from superfine 100% Australian merino wool, this gorgeously soft long sleeve top is perfect for layering in the cooler months and through winter, or wearing on its own as the weather warms up.

Wishing you you a happy new year from the team at ecoHaven.
